Get out of the city on a Flagstaff Adventure

what is there to do in flagstaff arizona

Phoenix is an amazing city but sometimes you just need to get away for some R&R so that’s exactly what I did! I went up to Flagstaff to have a little snow day adventure and want to show you everything that I did to help you out on your own adventure along with my thoughts on the places I went.

There was a forecast for snow so we left earlier than we had anticipated. The drive itself wasn’t too bad, only taking 2 and a half hours to get there and half a tank of gas. We first went to Walmart to pick up some gloves and snacks, both necessities! I wanted to get the errands out of the way so it was nothing but fun from then on out.

First stop, Flagstaff Extreme

Flagstaff Extreme is by far one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. For those of you that don’t know what this is, it’s a Tree Top Adventure Course that ranges from 15ft to 61ft above the ground.

What makes this so great is that you’re not waiting for a guide to get you through the course, it’s all you. They take you through a quick demo course so you understand how you should clip to the safety wires you’re attached to and to never double unclip, essentially be up in the course not attached to anything.

You go at your own pace and can even try to knock people off the course by jumping up and down some of the bridge obstacles. There was everything from rope swings, nets, swinging poles to barrels and zip lines. Check out our Instagram to see a video of me going on one of the longer ziplines.

This course is physically demanding and is not for the feint of heart. The course took me roughly 2 and a half hours to get through it all.  If you’re looking to go, be prepared to shell out some cash though. Each ticket will cost you $52 but I promise it’s worth it.

Food and Beer

This worked up an appetite and we were still to early to check into our accommodations for the night. I love craft beer and will always go out of my way to check out a brewery that I’ve never been to so I did just that!

A friend recommended we check out the Lumberyard Brewery while we were down in Flag.

Lumberyard Brewery is housed in an old Lumberyard Factory built back in 1890. The brewery itself was a unique site to see, it really fit well into the scene up there. The inside wasn’t too crazy though, looked just like another brewery.

I had the Pumphouse Porter, a dark ale containing black and chocolate malt with a touch of roasted barley. Rich and malty with a sharp hop bite.

To eat, I went out of my comfort zone and got their Vietnamese Burger and I was so happy that I did. The unique flavors came together better than I could have ever imagined. The burger was topped with Char siu pork, pepper jack cheese, pickled daikon and carrots, julienned jalapeños, cucumbers, cilantro, sriracha aioli and served on a Bolillo bun. This picture doesn’t do it justice!

Arizona Mountain Inn and Cabin

Going up to Flagstaff, you can’t just stay at any hotel! I wanted to get the whole it’s finally winter feel by staying in a cabin. Arizona Mountain inn and Cabin is a crowd pleaser. It was only $125 for the night for a cabin that sleeps up to 6. I wanted a bigger cabin even though there were only the 2 of us. The best part was the wood burning furnace, it put the finishing touches to the place.
