Downtown Mesa, a hidden gem?

Things are starting to feel somewhat normal lately. Well normal enough to where I’m going out to eat at restaurants and spending time with friends after being fully vaccinated.

When you think of things to do in Phoenix and the surrounding area, typically Downtown Phoenix, downtown Scottsdale, Tempe, downtown Chandler, and downtown Gilbert come to mind. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say “I’m going to downtown Mesa today.”

I started seeing advertisements lately for Downtown Mesa so I decided to host a mini brewery crawl with a handful of friends to check it out and wow I’ve been sleeping on it.

Not only are there killer restaurants, but there are also some cool sites to see too.

I’ve been to the 12 West Gilbert location that only serves beer to work on this site and other projects before so I knew their beer was legit. I assumed the other location would have been similar but it turns out, there is a full kitchen, bar, live music, mead and much more. The entire vibe at this brewery was fantastic for a brewery crawl with friends or as a date night with my fiance.

Oro Brewing Cmopany is a locally-owned and operated small batch brewery and taproom. If you like checking out new breweries, I highly recommend this one. They’ve got a small setup that includes a patio but there beer was incredible. I could go for seconds, thirds, fourths of there Boot the Brits pour.

“BOOT THE BRITS” — NEW ENGLAND IPA: 7% abv, 45 ibu
Less perceived bitterness than traditional IPAs yet intensely hop forward due to massive late kettle additions and dry-hopping. Boot the Brits features “new-world” hop varieties that offer juicy, citrusy, and tropical flavors and aromas. Wheat and oats offer a hazy appearance and a smooth medium-full body to round out the hoppy character.
Malts: Pilsner, UK Pale, Flaked Oats, White Wheat, BlackPrinz
Hops: Magnum, Citra, El Dorado, Mosaic

If you’ve been around Arizona for a while and enjoy the music scene, chances are you know about Nile Theatre but did you know the Nile Coffee Shop? Serving up delicious eats that are vegan friendly and incredibly sourced coffee, it’s a must go stop if you’re in the area.
